With neither father nor child present, Fathers Day can be a lonely day.
However, for me, it is also a day to reflect on the person who I called Dad, and sometimes, much to his annoyance, the old man.
He emigrated from Sicily with little formal education, was a stranger in a foreign land, didn't speak the language, and yet, made a way for himself.
He met my mom and married. His family was his priority. He even came home during his mere 1/2 hour lunch to spend time with us when we were home in the summers. Sundays were always family day.
He became a citizen, and was happy for what his new country had given him. I understood that, it is one of the reasons I gave back through service in the Navy.
Not a day goes by that I don't miss him.
Not a day goes by that I don't wish he was here.
Not a day goes by that I don't long for another hug.
Not a day goes by that I don't ask for just one more moment.
Not a day goes by that I know, although his body has left, he never has.
Happy Fathers Day dad.
